Volunteers Needed: Kinder Lunch Bunch

We need people this Friday and next week to fill in gaps. A minimum of 4 volunteers each day is the goal – but one from each kinder classroom would be even better!

You can use the singupgenius link at www.signupgenius.com/go/lunch327. It’s the only one we will use for the rest of the semester.

Thanks a lot!

JOIN THE PTA NOW, GET A DIRECTORY IN EARLY NOVEMBER
We’ve all heard it.
“Mom, I made a new friend today that I want at my party!”
Sure, you think. “What’s your friend’s name?”
“Alex.”
“Alex who?”
“Alex in KC.”

Find out who Alex in KC is. Or Terry in 2B. Or how many treats to send to 4E’s holiday party. Keep an extra copy in the car by enrolling more than one family member in the PTA.

TO JOIN THE PTA AND SIGN UP FOR A DIRECTORY

1. Go to www.lakewoodelementary.net
2. Select “PTA/Directory Sign Up”
3. Info must be entered every year

New! Parent Book Study: Raising Our Sons

This year we are starting an exciting parent nook study all about boys and parenting. We are going to read and discuss the book, Raising Our Sons by Dr. Kathy Masarie. The book is a compilation of articles, advice, ideas and research from various leading parenting authors. I think this book has great information as well as being a really good kickoff for discussion and connections between parents. Ten main topics are covered relating to supporting boys development into healthy teens and young adults. Because the book is geared toward preparing boys for tween and teen years, we are asking for parents of 3rd -5th grade boys only to participate. This group will be limited to 12 parents (for discussion and confidentiality purposes)-but if we have enough interest and commitment, a second group can be formed.

We are holding a brief informational meeting about this book study next Wednesday morning, Sept. 14th from 8:30-9:00am. At this meeting, we will share more details, sign up parents, discuss the group organization and how to order books. Please attend this meeting or contact me before Wednesday at ldickson@dallasisd.org if you are interested in joining the Raising Our Sons book study.

I received training on this book this summer at the American School Counselor Association Conference. Raising Our Boys is part of the Family Empowerment Network (FEN), which Dr. Masarie founded. For more information on FEN and Raising Our Sons please visit http://www.family-empower.com.
